Online music piracy is the act of illegal
downloading of copyrighted material. Music piracy is a widely discussed issue,
as it influences all the people involved in the creative process as well as
almost every Internet user, who comes across music downloading at some point in
their Internet career. As to almost everything, there are two competing angles
of view to this issue: the supporting and the disapproving. On one side being
producing companies and some artists, on the other the consumers and in some
cases also artists. The fist side views music piracy viewed as a threat for the
creative development of artists, for the second side it means raising popularity
of and advertising the artist and freedom in choice. Online music piracy is,
according to some, just a natural evolution of how music is distributed within
the society and helps its development in the artistic sense.
